MEDIEVO coin dies
The Medievo coinage dies consist of a base (which is screwed onto a solid surface such as a tree trunk), a ring, and two interchangeable dies, one for the obverse and one for the reverse of the coin, which are guided within the ring.
The desired reverse die is placed on the base, then the ring is attached, the blank or anonymous coin is placed inside the ring, and finally the obverse die, which has an egg-shaped bottom so it can be easily struck precisely in the center.
It is struck with a large mallet, the obverse die and the ring are removed, and the coin, marked on both sides, can be extracted.
Thanks to the use of soft, polished aluminum blanks, the resulting coins are shiny with a silver-like finish that delights those who receive them as souvenirs.
The dies are engraved in low relief, leaving the coins with a raised design. The resulting coin measures 27mm in diameter.

ROMAN Punches
The other oldest system for making coins is with only two punches, one for the obverse and one for the reverse.
The reverse punch is cone-shaped and is inserted into a thick log with a small recess to support the base of the cone.
The obverse is a cylindrical hand punch.
These coin-minting punches are for historical reenactment and educational activities in museums or similar settings. The idea is to produce coins in the traditional way, replicating the minting process as it was done at the time, for educational and demonstration purposes.
