Coin minting dies

Hardened steel dies with flat engravings, flat with several levels of engraving or 3D (faces, buildings, nature…) for minting coins and tokens in presses.

Omella Grabados SL machines and engraves minting dies for coins or stamps in tempered steel with 3D low relief engravings to manufacture the obverse and reverse of coins that are minted in a press.

Omella Grabados SL carries out the entire manufacturing process in its own facilities, providing great efficiency and very fast delivery times.

Based on the photographs, texts and the client’s requirements, Omella Grabados creates the 3D design that is sent for verification before the minting dies engraving.

Once this 3D design has been validated, the die is engraved using an advanced 3D laser engraving system and a complex polishing process.

To mint coins or tokens we have a die for the anverse, a die for the reverse and a ring to limit the expansion of the coin.

These dies are made to the specific measurements required by the machines available to each client.

Our company in this sector has a very heterogeneous clientele, including coin factories from different countries, private coin factories, artisan minters and jewelry workshops. These coin dies are used both to mint standard materials such as brass or nickel or precious materials such as gold or silver.

These coin minting dies are special for stamping proof finish coins. This type of coin is very striking, it is a collector’s coin with a mirror-polished background and the reliefs of the engravings with a satin finish.

In addition to stamping coins, this minting technique is used to make jewelry and mini gold ingots.

Minting Die, Stamping Dies for Coin and Bar Pressing

A minting die is a hardened metal stamping tool essential in a coin minting line. It’s used to stamp logos, texts, shapes, and other designs onto metal coins made of gold, silver, copper, zinc, brass, and other materials. These dies are engineered to endure the significant pressures required to impress designs onto blank coins.

In the coin press, the obverse (front) and reverse (back) dies are precisely aligned. As a blank coin, or planchet, moves into position, the press strikes it with immense force, transferring the die engravings onto the metal.

Omella Engravings produces minting dies from hardened steel. Our dies are capable of striking hundreds of thousands of coins before they need to be retired and defaced. Typically, the coin minting process requires two dies for each coin – one for the obverse and one for the reverse.
